About the artist:
Manuja Waldia (b.1992) is an artist renowned for surreal visual narratives that delve into brown feminine identity, her gaze and experience growing up in India. The work explores identity as a spectrum and the complex role of the artist as both an anomaly and a participant in capitalism. It moves in a delicate tension between personal life and community, memory and imagination, the authentic theatre of real life and the staged theatre of art, family figures and icons, reverence and critique, desire and detachment. In this interplay, she brings together the resilience, wit, and dignity of brown life through a perspective that is both cannily familiar and yet distinctly her own.
Formally trained as a visual designer, Manuja has collaborated with prestigious clients such as Sephora, Google, and Penguin Random House. Her award-winning work has been validated by global institutions like Forbes, Communication Arts, CNN and The Atlantic.
